Tungsten carbide compounds
High density
with complete freedom of component geometry
Customized tungsten carbide compounds for compact, lead-free components with high mass
Custom tungsten carbide compounds from Max Baermann make it possible to produce compact, lead-free functional components with deliberately high mass and freely designable geometry. We develop individual, highly filled tungsten carbide polymer formulations whose weight and material properties we match precisely to the respective application.
Our compound pellets enable efficient production of technical components that perform functional tasks in machines and devices, improve the tactile quality of premium products and replace lead-containing alternatives. Our end products are therefore used across a wide range of industries – from the automotive industry and mechanical engineering to medical technology. Matrix polymers:
- polyamide 6 (PA6)
- polyamide 11 (PA11)
- polyamide 12 (PA12)
- polyphenylene sulfide (PPS)
Filler:
- tungsten carbide
Advantages
simple, flexible realization of complex component geometries
direct integration of mounting features, guides and inserts into the component
fewer machining steps and less assembly effort
precisely adjustable, potentially very high compound density
premium tactile quality of functional components through increased weight
heavy material alternative to lead, which is critical for health and the environment
Processing options and fields of application for tungsten carbide compounds
Our tungsten carbide compounds are first processed into highly filled pellets and then into multifunctional components for a wide range of industries. Using co-kneaders and twin-screw extruders together with precise injection molding or extrusion processes, we manufacture components for applications such as:
- shifting the centre of gravity within assemblies
- mass balancing within assemblies
- vibration and noise optimization in assemblies
- enhancing the tactile quality of an assembly
- shielding against X-ray or gamma radiation
- replacing lead as a material for greater environmental and health protection
This makes the compounds suitable for versatile applications in mechanical engineering, automotive technology, radiation protection and medical technology. Typical examples of functional components made from our tungsten carbide compounds are shown below:

For heavy rotary knobs, switches, handles or housings in which greater weight supports a premium feel and more precise operation

Compact, function-integrated mass elements for optimizing the centre of gravity and balancing moving assemblies in actuators, flap actuators, drives, units and tools – even under high mechanical, thermal or chemical loads.

Integrated mass elements for reducing vibration and noise and for deliberately influencing natural frequencies, for example in motors

High-density shielding components for attenuating X-ray or gamma radiation to provide radiation protection in test rigs, laboratories and industrial machines

Radiopaque components for the reliable localization and identification of medical or technical components in imaging procedures
