Frequently Asked Questions & Answers about our technical compounds
Depending on the compound group, we use base polymers made from:
- Polyamide 6 (PA6)
- Polyamide 6.6 (PA6.6)
- Polyamide 11 (PA11)
- Polyamide 12 (PA12)
- Polyphenylene sulphide (PPS)
The selection of the appropriate base polymer is application-specific. Factors taken into account include the required temperature and media resistance, the mechanical properties and the intended processing method.
For specific applications, new polymer solutions can also be developed to meet individual requirements.
Our technical compounds can be manufactured with very high filler contents. For magnetic compounds – depending on the magnetic material, the base polymer and the desired property profile – filler contents of up to 93% by weight are possible. Graphite compounds can be produced with filler contents of up to 75% by weight.
The optimum filler content is determined on a project-by-project basis. The aim is to achieve a balance between the desired functional properties and reliable further processing of the compound.
Yes, it is generally possible to use raw materials supplied by the customer or specified for a particular project. Depending on the requirements, we develop a processable compound formulation from these materials, tailored to the intended injection moulding or extrusion process.
Furthermore, as part of our contract compounding services, we support our customers in scaling up existing formulations from laboratory or pilot plant scale to a stable industrial production process. We agree on the technical feasibility, raw material compatibility and necessary tests at the start of the project.
For standard production orders, the minimum quantity is generally 1,000 kg per material or formulation. For larger requirements of 10 tonnes or more, project-specific framework agreements can be arranged.
On request, we can also coordinate the stocking of key raw materials or pre-produced compounds to meet your requirements. This helps to ensure a high level of supply reliability and short response times for recurring call-offs.
Sample, development and pre-series quantities are excluded from this and can be produced in significantly smaller batches.
Yes, depending on the project, we provide sample and development batches for material development, feasibility studies and initial processing trials.
Initial formulations can be produced on the laboratory extruder in quantities as small as approximately 5 kg. For processing trials, sampling and pre-series production, batches of up to approximately 100 kg are possible. This allows material properties and processing behaviour to be assessed at an early stage, before the formulation is scaled up to industrial series production.
The specific quantity and delivery time depend on the formulation, the availability of raw materials and the required testing programme.
The relevant test parameters are defined for each compound in consultation with the customer and depending on the intended application. Depending on the compound group, these may include electrical, thermal, magnetic, mechanical and processing-related properties.
The agreed characteristics are monitored on a batch-by-batch basis as part of our quality control process. Upon delivery, our customers receive, on request, a corresponding test certificate detailing the agreed test results. This ensures traceable batch quality and reproducible material properties for series production.
