Sustainability

Sustainability out of conviction – for future generations
and future-proof technologies

Our commitment to sustainability

As a third-generation family-owned company, Max Baermann also takes responsibility for future generations. Protecting our environment is therefore particularly important to us and is an integral part of our corporate strategy. For us, sustainability means operating our own sites in a more environmentally conscious way while developing technical solutions that make industrial applications more resource-efficient, more effective and more future-proof.

Our key fields of action:

  • Continuously measuring and reducing the carbon footprint of our own sites
  • Developing magnetic solutions for more efficient, more resource-efficient applications
  • Avoiding critical raw materials wherever possible through intelligent magnetic field design
  • Optimizing material use through recycling and reduced production scrap
  • Jointly developing sustainability standards along the supply chain

Internationally recognized sustainability standards

Max Baermann is guided by internationally recognized initiatives and rating platforms that make climate protection, environmental data and responsible supply chains measurable: Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP), EcoVadis and the Responsible Minerals Initiative (RMI).

Measuring and reducing the carbon footprint of our sites

As a member of the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) we are aware of our responsibility towards the environment and pursue the careful use of natural resources at our production sites. We are committed to environmental protection by promoting energy efficiency, minimizing waste, using environmentally friendly technologies and committing to the 1.5-degree target of the Paris Climate Agreement.

To this end we determine our emissions and key figures for our material environmental aspects and work continuously to minimize negative impacts on our environment. We report our key figures annually through the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) and make them available to our customers.

Developing magnetic solutions for more efficient applications

Our products help make the world more sustainable. Using plastic-bonded permanent magnets can save weight in motors, for example. Sensor magnets also make technical devices more intelligent and more efficient. In addition, intelligent magnet design allows our customers to save energy and avoid hazardous substances in downstream process steps. That is why our magnets can be found in many applications in the automotive, industrial and consumer goods sectors.

Avoiding critical raw materials through intelligent magnetic field design

One of our sustainability goals is to solve our customers’ challenges in the most environmentally friendly way possible and, through intelligent and highly precise magnetic field design, to be able to do without rare earths and conflict minerals.

Where this is not possible because of the application, we work only with suppliers who can demonstrate that their sources are certified in accordance with the Responsible Minerals Initiative (RMI). To this end we survey our suppliers regularly using the Conflict Minerals Reporting Template (CMRT) or the Extended Minerals Reporting Template (EMRT).

Optimizing material use through recycling and less scrap

In every project we aim from the outset to develop products in which recycled materials can be used, because much of our raw material has already travelled a long way and undergone energy-intensive processing – which is why we regard our raw materials as valuable resources. We want to treat resources with the greatest possible respect and avoid as much waste as possible. Scrap is therefore monitored in our production operations and continuously reduced through technical and organizational improvement measures.

Developing sustainability standards along the supply chain

We actively develop sustainability standards in our supply chain by committing business partners to shared principles and providing relevant ESG information transparently. This is based on our code of conduct and the ten principles of the UN Global Compact. Through platforms such as CDP, EcoVadis and IntegrityNext we share information on the environment, social responsibility, corporate governance and sustainable procurement. In this way we create greater transparency in the supply chain and support continuous improvement in our cooperation.

Key documents on corporate sustainability and responsibility

We are convinced that sustainability needs clear foundations. In our corporate policy and our code of conduct we therefore set out clearly the principles by which Max Baermann acts – within our own company, in cooperation with business partners and in the responsible handling of the environment, resources and supply chains.

Corporate policy

Our corporate policy describes the central guidelines for quality, environmental awareness, occupational safety and responsible conduct at Max Baermann.

Code-of-Conduct

Our Code of Conduct defines binding principles for acting with integrity, fair cooperation and shared responsibility throughout our business relationships.
