Flexible magnets
Plastic-bonded permanent magnets
that adapt flexibly to any shape
Flexible magnets as custom components for your product
As a specialist in plastic-bonded permanent magnets, we take care of the development and manufacture of flexible magnets for technical applications. Whether magnetic strip, magnetic profile or magnetic sheet, our custom solutions offer strong magnetic properties while remaining flexible to shape, easy to convert to individual formats and simple to integrate as components.
The origins for our high-precision flexible magnets goes back to 1952, when company founder and pioneer Max Baermann filed the key patent for the flexible permanent magnet and thus laid the basis for magnetic refrigerator door closures. Today we develop flexible sensor and holding magnets for a wide range of industries, from household goods to mechanical engineering.
Work with us to realize a suitable flexible magnet solution for your application too.

Technical properties of magnetic sheets, profiles and strips
Our flexible sheets, profiles and strips are developed on a ferrite or neodymium basis, depending on the application-specific requirements. Depending on the material, our solutions achieve a magnetic field strength of between 0.17 and 0.7 tesla. The key advantage, however, lies in their processability: the components are flexible, individually formable, break-resistant and durable. This makes them easy to integrate into technical products for which rigid magnet solutions are not a suitable design option.
| Property | Flexible ferrite magnets | Flexible neodymium magnets |
|---|---|---|
| Field strength | 0.17–0.3 tesla | 0.6–0.7 tesla |
| Maximum operating temperature | up to 100 °C | up to 100 °C |
| Maximum strip dimensions | up to 900 m in length at 1 mm thickness; thicknesses from 0.8 mm to 5 mm; widths from 3 mm to 40 mm | |
| Maximum sheet dimensions | thicknesses from 0.16 mm to 2.5 mm; widths from 300 mm to approx. 1,000 mm for digital printing applications | |

Variants and fields of application
Magnetic strip, magnetic profile and magnetic sheet (plastic-bonded)
Our flexible magnets are plastic-bonded permanent magnet solutions which, depending on the intended usage, can be produced as a flexible magnetic strip or magnetic profile as well as a flexible magnetic sheet – with a self-adhesive backing if required. In each case we develop a customer-specific magnet with the required magnetic properties, the specified design requirements and all the prerequisites for the most economical series production possible.
Therefore, we use individual material combinations based either on highly magnetic neodymium or on cost-efficient ferrite without heavy rare earths. As binders we use vulcanized elastomers such as nitrile rubber (NBR) and chlorinated polyethylene (CPE), or thermoplastic elastomers. Extrusion or calendaring turns these into reliable flexible permanent magnets that are ideally suited to the intended application.

Use as a magnetic component in sensors
Max Baermann produces individual flexible magnetic components for high-precision sensors in industry, mechanical engineering and consumer goods. They are used both in sensor rings of rotary encoders for measuring speed and angular position and in linear encoders for length and position measurement. When developing the magnets, we match materials and magnetic properties precisely to the intended application in order to find a reliable and highly economical solution and to ensure first-class magnet quality – including accurate magnetic field curves, minimal angular errors and homogeneous magnetic fields.
Use as a holding magnet component
One of our areas of specialization is the realization of innovative flexible holding magnets. As early as the 1950s, company founder Max Baermann carried out important pioneering work in this field: he invented and patented the first magnetic rubber refrigerator door closure, which went on to revolutionize the industry. Today we still regularly develop holding magnet solutions for our customers – for example in the form of flexible mounts, magnetic door seals or closure systems in mechanical engineering. Like for flexible sensor magnets, during product development we match the magnetic properties individually to the intended purpose in order to achieve a solution that is as high-performing and reliable as possible while remaining economically efficient and suitable for series production.
